Time is Money, according to a well-known motto that still today reduces “the news” to just three minutes. The truth, however, is that time is Relationship – and indeed a profoundly loving one. A relationship that knows how to share both the meaning of Life and the wounds carried by the Persons who dare to engage in it, so as to break free from the vicious cycle of pain and pleasure.
Apostle Paul, or Saul of Tarsus, is more relevant than ever. In an age of early globalization, he was a figure who lived relationships intensely, searching for Meaning and a Reason to Exist in a world that had “deified” sex and violence.
He was not born a Christian – he became one.
Until the age of thirty, he was a fierce persecutor of Jesus, for whatever he did, he did with passion. His personal encounter with the Risen Lord transformed him. From then on, he carried the wounds – the marks – of the Crucified Nazarene, undertaking incredible journeys around the Aegean and the Mediterranean to radiate the message of true hope. He founded Communities – Families that turned the Pyramid of Power upside down, where “there is neither male nor female, slave nor free, Greek nor Jew.”
He did not write essays on Christianity, for to him it had nothing to do with Ethics, Metaphysics, or even Religion. Instead, he composed – or rather dictated – Letters, in order to remain in constant dialogue.

Why Apostle Paul Today?
- Today, one does not merely happen to be but becomes a Christian. The presence of Christ marks a turning point in one’s biography.
- The Letters of Apostle Paul are models of Communion and Evangelization in a Globalized World, where all the positive aspects of Creation are utilized (use of “tablets,” the “internet” – avenues of communication). What we need is Rhetoric, not for acting or display, but to communicate the message of the Resurrection.
- The Letters are a fragmented Dialogue. They address vital issues of people living in multicultural cities. Of course, the works of the Apostle Paul are not simply casual notes to friends, but extensive Writings, composed not in one sitting like emails, but over months – with enormous costs even for that time. One must also take into account the logistics.
- The earliest Voice of Christianity in the New Testament, though the youngest of the Apostles. If Paul were here today, he would be teaching either at a University of Social and Political Sciences – or in Medicine.
